We're On a Boat, At Open House Chicago

"Since 1892, Columbia Yacht Club has been celebrated as one of Chicago's premier boating clubs and sailing organizations. In the winter of 1982-83, Columbia Yacht Club purchased the MV Abegweit, a 372-foot, 7,000-ton train ferry from Canada. Its lower level held railcars and motor vehicles during the ship's service on the Northumberland Straight from 1947 to 1982. This is a members only club, so imagine our surprise when we heard our project was a featured destination.

The ship now acts as Columbia Yacht Club's de facto headquarters that hosts a myriad of events as well as active sailing clubs. The "Abby" may be moored but that doesn't mean she skimps on service and hospitality. zpd+a jumped at the opportunity to include this historical ship in our interiors portfolio. With an exclusive dining room and entertainment spaces that offer an unparalleled views of downtown Chicago's harbor and skyline, our finishes reflect the ship's nuanced historical details with fresh contemporary forms. This airy, clubby space is rarely open to the public, your opportunity to visit happens next weekend, October 14 & 15 with Open House Chicago. Go get on a boat!
