zpd+a is excited to announce that we are the recipients of the 2021 Interior Build Out Award as part of the 2021 Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards, honoring our recently completed BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois Morgan Park Solution Center project.
The Chicago Building Congress is the cornerstone of Chicagoland’s dynamic building industry, advancing the art, science and technology of the building industry, and the Merit Awards recognize and celebrate the economic, aesthetic and social environment in our community. Winning recognition by such an esteemed company of peers is a true honor!
The BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois Morgan Park Solution Center project integrates design excellence with a robust community and workspace program that is dedicated to enhancing health and wellness for employees, as well as the regional neighborhood.
When the BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois Morgan Park Solution Center opened in 2020, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) President and CEO, Maurice Smith, said, "We believe in the power of community and how collective action will drive long-term meaningful change for our members and employees where they live and work."
To bring this vision alive, HCSC partnered with zpd+a architects, Pepper Construction and Brown and Momen, to revive an abandoned big-box space into a dynamic office and community center while helping to create 550 high quality neighborhood jobs. The design features two bold interior courtyards, flooding the interior with natural light and providing a welcoming outdoor space for staff enjoyment. The space also includes Blue Door, a community center dedicated to health and wellness outreach for the community, and well as Blue University, an in-house career development and training facility.
