A new construction mid-rise condominium in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, this project transformed a white-box unit into a personalized, design-forward home for a client ready to leave behind a compartmentalized traditional home for an open, light-filled urban residence. Spectacular city views and abundant natural light defined the canvas; the design brief called for a luxury interior that balances urban sophistication with warmth and comfort.

zpd+a's approach focused on high-impact interventions anchored by a color-drenched foyer that immediately establishes the home's character, and a dramatic stone backsplash that anchors the kitchen as the visual centerpiece of the open plan. Throughout, plush textiles and rich finishes layer warmth, texture, and depth into a space defined by clean contemporary lines.

The relationship has grown well beyond the original scope. zpd+a continues to collaborate with the client on an evolving art collection — curating pieces that add color, meaning, and deeply personal narrative to every room. The space has taken on increasing character and life with each addition, reflecting not just a design vision but an ongoing creative partnership between architect and client.

The design celebrates deliberate contrast — light and shadow, sleek lines and soft materials, urban views and intimate interiors — resulting in a home that continues to evolve alongside the person who lives in it.
