Senior Lifestyle Garden Estates Assisted Living
Tyler, Texas
ZPD+A and Senior Lifestyle Corporation have been creatively collaborating on communities across the United States for half a decade, creating regionally focused interiors that support residents’ dynamic lifestyle and activities, while simultaneously benefiting management targets and maintenance efficiencies.
Located in "The Rose Capital of America,” Garden Estates of Tyler Texas Senior Living community is surrounded by rich history and southern heritage. The lively community needed a creative and thoughtful refresh for the common area, and a complete overhaul of the public restroom to meet ADA and Texas Accessibility requirements. The design team at zpd+a envisioned a fresh, new look for the Independent and Assisted Living community, implementing a vibrant and welcoming scheme designed to appeal to the varied needs and comfort of the residents, as well as their families and the community employees while adhering to the specific requirements of accessibility and mobility needs relevant to the population of the community.
The interior integrates a color palette inspired by famed Texas sunsets, featuring soothing blues and fresh greens, accented by vibrant pinks, lilacs and golds. The regional sophisticated estates and time weathered farmhouse vernaculars inspired the mixed woods and metals integrated throughout, layering materials and finishes to create a dynamic and embracing community. Art and accessories are whimsical yet elegant, relevant to the community’s locale and experiences.
The refresh maximized space and utility, reconfiguring the reception area with custom millwork to provide a bright and welcoming Lobby. New technologies create new opportunities for interactive areas, and the design included a Digital Games Lounge, a new Pub Lounge, and an Interactive Studio designed for family facetime and zoom calls. Creating a new community Music Lounge, Library as well as refreshing the Creative Studio have inspired new places for gathering and activities for residents.
Construction and installation throughout the COVID pandemic required ongoing care to protect the at-risk population and was handled with remote oversight from the ownership and design team. Protocols were thoroughly adhered to protect the residents and employees, while maintaining overall expectations and deliverables. This required communications dexterity and weekly meetings with ownership, procurement team, general contractor, construction project manager and the Garden Estates community staff.
