Out of Office: NY Design Week at ICFF & Shelter by Afternoon Light

New York Design Week never disappoints: The energy, ingenuity and creativity always serve up crisp design angles and the latest in market developments. Comfortable shoes were packed, the water bottle was full and the tote bag empty- We were ready for the long stroll through Javits for ICFF. ICFF scales from the student level to artisan/craftsperson featured in their lemon yellow WANTEDDESIGN section to the professional full scale manufacturers and purveyors to provide variety of techniques and perspectives. It's a refresh that shows us invigorating opportunities and answers to design solutions.

Product exposure and fresh inspiration keep us from getting stuck in our comfort zones. ICFF was a masterclass in the warmth of handicraft and materiality: Pristine ceramic at Olivia Barry By Hand and blown glass lighting by Larose Guyon, Japanese woodworking by Miyazaki Chair and bespoke Tibetan silk rugs by Tibetano. Feeling the energized, we continued down the street to the Yasuo Matsui designed building, the Starrett-Lehigh, for the new show on the block, Shelter by Afternoon Light.

When we make room for trade shows, we ignite our curiosity and access teachable moments- Making us better in our workplace with our colleagues and clients. See you in NYC next year!
