Logan Square Two-Flat | Interior Renovation | Chicago, Illinois

Architecture and Interior Design by zpd+a in collaboration with Hardy Construction

A Victorian two-flat unit in Chicago's Logan Square, reimagined for a woman establishing her own presence in the city. The renovation opened up a compartmentalized floor plan to create a home centered on entertaining, connection, and light — a space with a strong, distinct personality of its own, rooted in the character of the original building.

The renovation honored the vintage bones of the two-flat through material choices and details that acknowledge the building's history — preserving the warmth and craft of the original architecture as a counterpoint to the clean, contemporary interventions layered throughout. The kitchen was redesigned as an open, communicating space with the living room — drawing guests into the cooking and conversation rather than separating them. The dining space doubles as a guest room, maximizing flexibility without sacrificing elegance. The bathroom was expanded into a spacious, modern retreat befitting contemporary urban luxury — a deliberate counterpoint to the utilitarian proportions typical of Victorian two-flat stock. The result is a home that works as hard as its owner does, and feels entirely her own.
