Columbia Yacht Club
Chicago, Illinois

Columbia Yacht Club is a private members' club located at Monroe Harbor in Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1892. The club is housed aboard The Abegweit — known as "The Abby" — a historic Great Lakes icebreaker ship that has been permanently moored at Monroe Harbor and converted into the club's primary venue. One of Chicago's most distinctive waterfront landmarks, The Abby is a celebrated example of adaptive reuse, transforming a working vessel into a vibrant social and dining destination on Lake Michigan.

The Abby's Phase I dining room renovation introduced an updated culinary program alongside a refreshed interior, designed to elevate the member dining experience while honoring the club's 130-year heritage. A new menu curated by a distinguished chef complements the renewed ambiance, balancing contemporary sophistication with the club's longstanding tradition of hospitality. The project reflects Columbia Yacht Club's ongoing commitment to offering a premier private dining and social destination in Chicago's Monroe Harbor.

The Columbia Yacht Club offers members and guests a unique lakefront hospitality experience on Chicago's downtown waterfront. The interior design draws on the natural palette of Monroe Harbor — sky blues, lake greys, and the Chicago skyline — rendered through chestnut wood millwork, vintage brass fixtures, maritime textiles, and leather seating. The result is a sophisticated yet welcoming environment suited to private dining, recreation, member events, and waterfront entertaining along the shores of Lake Michigan.
