McCook MAX Athletic and Exhibition Center, McCook, IL

The Village of McCook retained zpd+a as the design architect for the 18,000 sq. ft. expansion of the McCook Athletic and Exposition Center located in McCook, Illinois known as the Max. The Max facility is a 123,000 sq. ft. sports facility which contains four soccer fields, basketball and volley ball courts and indoor batting cages. It is also the home of numerous programs for children.

zpd+a was requested by the Village to program and design a two-story addition to the east end of the existing structure. The program developed including ground-floor locker rooms, bathrooms and changing rooms, office and much-needed storage space. The second level contains a full-court indoor basketball court that can also be used as a banquet hall to seat 250 people. Also on the second floor is a 5,000 sq. ft. bar and restaurant called The Pub, which has access to a 4,000 sq. ft. mezzanine. This currently contains a full-size volleyball court but could double as a viewing area for events inside the original Max facility.
